The scene opens up to a medium close-up shot of Jennifer Yang who gives the camera a bright and confident smile.
“First match, first win. And now onto the second match, I’m looking for another victory. Yes, that’s what I’m aiming for. When you’re building the foundation of your career, you’ve gotta make sure it’s solid and strong. The early days are just as important as your last and I’m determined to make every second count. Of course, I’m aware that losses are part of the journey and I’m prepared for all aspects of the learning curve. See, that’s the thing. I’m ready for it all. I’m willing to give everything for this sport and make sure that, win or lose, I come out a better wrestler than I was before. A win isn’t just a win. I learned a lot from Drew. He threw me around the ring like I was nothing. And somewhere in between the suplexes, I did start to feel scared. I worked so hard to get my Pride Pro debut but what if I wasn’t cut out for this? What if this was all a mistake?”
She breathes out an inaudible sigh before shaking her head.
“No, I told myself. I wasn’t gonna let the fear take over me so I stuck to my decision, the one I made when I first signed the contract here. I’m not just bound to this company, I’m bound to the promise I made to myself. Some people want to be the best, to be the king or queen of the industry. Some just want to put on unforgettable performances, constantly pushing boundaries, for the fans who love this business as much as they do. And some are taking their time to explore all that this sport has to offer. Right now, that’s me. They say being new automatically puts you at a disadvantage but I completely disagree. Maybe, just maybe, I had a little bit of luck on my side. But being new has its perks too; a fresh mind.”
A more serious expression crosses her features.
“I faced an opponent who’s been on the short end of the stick a few times in a row and maybe that was his downfall and my opportunity. But this week? I’m facing a fellow young blood in Echo. I think we’re both kinda on the same level here and that’s gonna make for an interesting match. What makes her dangerous is the mystery around her. But I won’t let that hinder my progress in Pride. In fact, I’m hoping that since we’re both looking to gain solid traction here, we would help each other out by putting on a match that could rival the rest of the card with names bigger than ours.”
She gazes away for a second, a soft smile curving her lips.
“The PPV is aptly named Phenomenon, and not just for those fighting for the championships. It’s for the rest of us too. Particularly, for Echo and I. This is literally our second appearance in Pride and I want to take this challenge to get noticed as an actual worthy competitor and not just a name on the roster. Now wouldn’t THAT be a phenomenon? I’m sure Echo would want to too. So let’s do this!”
Jennifer smiles before the scene fades to black.
