Ignition #004: Phenomenal Preview!
Live from the ShoWare Center in Seattle, Washington!
The feed comes to life on a beautiful pyrotechnic display on the Pride Pro stage. The cameras pan around the arena, showcasing the sold out crowd. Twenty-One Pilots "Heathens" blasts through the arena PA system as the cameras cut to the stage. The lights dim on the arena.
Coby Quik:
"Did we forget to pay the electricity bill?"
Then purple and red strobe lights make patterns as the high beat of Porcelain Black’s “Pretty Little Psycho” filters through the arena. The crowd start ramping up.
Parker Wayde:
"I thought she was retired."
Coby Quik:
"But coming out of retirement for Pride? Maybe she was just waiting for the right company?"
The strobe lights stop in the center of the stage where someone in a hoodie stands, she looks up as the house lights go up. The crowd go nuts for the one and only Violet Ripley. She isn't dressed in her normal attire. Instead of a plaid skirt and docs with her red and purple laces, she is wearing bright red high heels. She unzips the hoodie, throwing it into the crowd showing she was wearing Jeans and a lavender blazer. She walks up the aisle, nodding to people with a smile. She climbs into the ring through the ropes where her sister, Heather hands her the mic and gives her a hug before exiting the ring. Violet smiles widely at the crowd's excitement at seeing her. She takes a second to take it all in before it dies down enough for her to speak.
Violet Ripley:
"Well... that was an exciting welcome. Thank you for that. And I bet everyone here is wondering, why would Violet be here tonight? Isn't she retired?"
She nods her head.
Violet Ripley:
"You all would be right. I am retired... from being a competing athlete in wrestling. Truth is, I have not been medically cleared for some time."
The crowd seems disappointed in this.
Violet Ripley:
"Sorry to let you down, but I am not here tonight to sign with Pride... as a wrestler."
Coby Quik:
"Max was just supposed to be temporary. Does this mean Violet is the new GM?"
Parker Wayde:
"I hope not, Vi in a position of power is a scary thought"
Violet Ripley:
"I saw an opportunity so, after last show I invited Taryn Robinson to lunch to discuss a proposition. And during that lunch meeting I... made her an offer she couldn't refuse, as they say."
Parker Wayde:
"Wait... is she saying she bought out Taryn?"
Violet Ripley:
"You are all looking at the new co-owner of Pride Wrestling."
The crowd erupts again but she is quick to corral them in.
Violet Ripley:
"My mission is to be an owner unlike any you have ever seen. You know when I started, I was this cute as a button girl following in her big sister's footsteps. I probably would not have gotten far if not for a breakthrough and an owner willing to take a risk on an unknown. Now I am a hall of famer. So, I am going to take a page from his book. You all know that Pride gas many unusual talents on its roster and part of my focus will be to make sure these... underdogs get just as much of an opportunity as your standard cloth cut wrestlers."
Coby Quik:
"Violet is revelling in the excitement of the audience."
Violet Ripley:
"So without further ado, let's get this party started."
She blows a kiss, and her music hits the PA system. She celebrates her arrival with the cheering fans as the cameras cut away to the announce table.
Coby Quik:
"Well that is certainly one way to kick off a show!"
Parker Wayde:
"No joke. Violet Ripley in charge? That's not something I thought that I would ever see."
Coby Quik:
"You're married to her sister, did you not know this was coming?"
Parker Wayde:
"I'm not sure anyone, not even Jason Halich, saw this coming. You have to think Taryn would not have sold her part of the company to just anyone. Violet is probably going to be a headache for Jason."
Coby Quik:
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but you two still don't get along, do you?"
Parker Wayde:
Coby Quik:
"Alright then, moving on, we have a huge show ahead of us tonight."
Parker Wayde:
"The PRIDE Champion is in action against Sammy Duke, and the Television Championship is on the line with our champion Holly Rhodes taking on Kendall James."
Coby Quik:
"That is not the only championship action either. James Williams, Christian Michaels, Josh Anderson and Deacon Thomas find themselves in matches that could shift momentum heading into their Coastal Championship clash at Phenomenon in two weeks."
Parker Wayde:
"Julian Savell and DeMarcus Gresham get their hands on one another at Phenomenon, but they find themselves taking on newcomers this week."
Coby Quik:
"Echo and Gio Davidson respectively, and these newbies have quite the challenge ahead of them. These two have been trying to rip each other apart since the night Pride opened. "
Parker Wayde:
"Hopefully, for Echo and Gio's sake, both members of Pride's old guard find themselves too distracted by each other to pick up victories here tonight."
Coby Quik:
"...but none of these things compare to our main event here tonight."
Parker Wayde:
"That's right. We have Anushka Aalto taking on Erron Wilder in order to determine who will face RC Tucker at Phenomenon for the PRIDE Championship."
Coby Quik:
"Who do you have money on?"
Parker Wayde:
"That one is too close to call, and way too far away to focus on, because our first match is about to get underway right now!"
Coby Quik:
"And for once it is not Eliza Valentine!"
Parker Wayde:
"Believe me, I was as shocked as you are."
Coby Quik:
"Newcomer Jennifer Yang takes on Drew Simmons as he tries to get things turned around in the right direction."
The Arena dims down to only full with a combo of Gold lighting and flash bulb pasted strobes.
Heather Cooper:
"The following contest is scheduled for one fall, introducing first, from Las Vegas, Nevada, Drew Simmons!"
Drew walks out on stage wearing a black ring jacket with the same logo as his shorts on the back. He raises his arms up and gives out a yell as his game face is on. He stalks to the ring. Walks up the steps into the ring where he crosses the ring to the second turnbuckle and unzips his jacket and flexes.
Heather Cooper:
"...and his opponent..."
When the intro of “Let ‘Em Say” by Lizzo & Caroline Smith starts to play, the screen shows rhythmic cuts of “JENNIFER”, “YANG”, “#BEHUMBLE” and various shots of her dominating in the ring with her finisher and signature moves. The vocals kick in and out comes Jennifer Yang, full of positive energy and attitude.
Heather Cooper:
"Making her Pride Pro Wrestling debut, Jennifer Yang!"
She waves to the fans, slapping some of their hands, as she runs past them before entering the ring. She climbs up one corner and hypes up the crowd with an enthusiastic shout and a dazzling smile. She hops back down as the music fades out.
Coby Quik:
“Simmons hasn’t had the best of luck since coming to Pride, but maybe that will change tonight!”
Parker Wayde:
“I’ve got my money on the new girl.”
Coby Quik:
“You would.”
Parker Wayde:
“What?”
Coby Quik:
“You have already written him off. Have a little faith.”
As JD signaled for the opening bell, Drew and Jennifer began to circle each other. The crowd cheered on both individuals as they stepped forward into a collar and elbow tie up. Jennifer put forth a good effort, but Drew easily backed her into the corner. But once he tried to take a swing at her, Jennifer ducked and escaped out the back. As he turned around, he was met with a hard kick to the side of the head.
Parker Wayde:
“Drew might have power on his side, but Jennifer just proved she has the speed on hers.”
As Drew slumped back into the corner, Jennifer delivered a series of punches and kicks that rocked him even further. Before Drew had a chance to recover, Jennifer pulled him out into the middle of the ring and dropped him with a Snap DDT. As his head met the mat, it echoed throughout the ShoWare Center. Drew looked pretty out of it as Jennifer made the cover. That’s when JD dropped to make the count, but only barely reached two.
Coby Quik:
“Told you Drew was determined. Still the newcomer looking pretty impressive in the opening minutes of this contest!”
Jennifer didn’t let up from there. She kept on taking it right to Drew. But as she tried for the Modified Fireman’s Carry Takedown, Drew landed on his feet and ran into the ropes. As Jennifer turned around, Drew nearly took her head off with a big clothesline.
Coby Quik:
“That’s one way to get yourself back into a fight!”
Once Jennifer went down to the mat, Drew kicked her for extra measure before pulling her off the mat. From there, he just started using moves like the T-Bone Suplex and Cobra Clutch Slam to show off his power. As he lifted her into the air for a vertical suplex, he held her up there for a really long time before putting her to the mat. When he finally did, Drew hooked the leg as JD began the count, but again only reached two before the kick out.
Parker Wayde:
“Yang showing off a bit of resiliency as she keeps this match alive.”
A quick shot of Faith is shown with her looking pleased as she watches from the locker room area as Drew continued to keep his offense going.
Coby Quik:
“There is Drew’s girlfriend keeping tabs on what’s going on.”
Parker Wayde:
“She’ll probably be disappointed soon enough.”
Coby Quik:
“You don’t know that.”
After putting Jennifer back to the mat with a Press Slam turned Power Slam, Drew tried for another cover. JD was in perfect position for it, but Drew still only managed a two count. When that didn’t work, Drew picked her off the mat and Jennifer across the ring with an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex. Fans are cheering as Drew paced the ring a bit.
Coby Quik:
“Looks like Simmons is closing in on this victory.”
When Jennifer used the ropes to pull herself up a few moments later, Drew taunted her to come at him. When she did, Drew jumped up to bring her down into the Codebreaker, but Jennifer managed to stay on her feet by pulling free of his grip. Drew fell hard to his back on the mat, with Jennifer in position to take control.
Parker Wayde:
“You were saying?”
Coby Quik:
“Drew went for the Black Jack, but it wasn’t meant to be.”
Yang taunted the crowd getting them to cheer for her as she waited for Drew to get back to his feet. Once he did, Jennifer slapped on a wristlock as she scaled the ropes before catching him in a slingshot cutter. As soon as Drew was laid out from the move, Jennifer made the cover and JD began his count, and this one went the full distance as the crowd chanted along.
Parker Wayde:
“Yang’s gotten her first win in Pride Pro Wrestling. Just like I knew she would!”
Coby Quik:
“Still great effort by Simmons. One of these days things will come together the way he wants them to!”
As “Let ‘Em Say” by Lizzo and Caroline Smith began to play out, Jennifer got to her feet and had her hand raised in the air as Heather was heard on the microphone.
Heather Cooper:
“Here is your winner by pinfall...JENNNNNNNNNIFERRRRRR YAAAAAAANNNNNNG!
Afterwards, Jennifer went over to check on Drew and helped him to his feet. He looked rather disappointed with the outcome as he stood there looking at her. But after a few moments, Drew raised her arm in the air much to the delight of the crowd.
Coby Quik
“Nothing like a little sportsmanship to kick off the show.”
Parker Wayde:
“Don’t get used to it. You know Eliza is coming out next, right?”
Following the display, Drew exited the ring and left Yang to her celebration as he walked to the back with his head hung in defeat.
The camera cuts to the back, where Spider stands, rolling her shoulders, looking a bit nervous. The camera pans out to see that she’s standing outside the office of… Jason Halich. She knocks.
Jay Halich:
“Come in.”
Spider slowly opens the door, peeking inside. Jay sits at his desk, reading over a few pages, barely looking up as the door swings forward.
Jason Halich:
“Spider. You're about the last person that I expected to see....”
Spider approaches his desk, breathing deeply. She opens her mouth. Jay looks up, a brief flash of interest crossing his face at the thought that she’s about to speak, but Spider closes it with a flustered frown.
Jason Halich:
“Are you going to… say anything, or…?”
Spider looks around the room and points excitedly to an object in the corner of Jay’s desk.
Jason Halich:
“….really?”
Spider nods, smiling, and seizes… an etch-a-sketch. She shakes it and immediately goes to work. Her fingers fly across the knobs and in a moment, she holds it out for Jay, who raises an eyebrow as he takes it. He glances from Spider, down to the etch-a-sketch and blinks in surprise. The camera pulls around to get a view: A full paragraph, crudely written in a single line, that Spider had somehow doodled up in less than a minute. Jay reads it out loud.
Jason Halich:
“’Last Ignition, I should have had that match won, but a technical error kept me from doing my job. You pay me to fight. I fight. I’m good at it. I’m just asking for an opportunity to do more.’”
Jay looks up at Spider, but does not jump to offer her anything.
Jason Halich:
“What kind of opportunity are you looking for, Spider?”
Spider seizes the toy before Jay can object, shaking it and going right back to work. In a minute, she hands the etch-a-sketch back to Jay, who again is surprised at how quickly she’s put it together.
Jason Halich:
“’I know you’ve got the new Coastal Championship match coming up. I’m not asking to be put in the match. I’m asking for an opportunity to get into the match. You know, just like I know, I can take that chance and I can knock it out of the park. Please give me that chance.”
Jay looks back to Spider, incredulously. He holds up the etch-a-sketch.
Jason Halich:
“How do you do that so fast?”
Spider’s nimble fingers dance across the knobs once more before handing it back.
Jason Halich:
“’I thought everyone could do that.’”
He frowns and shakes his head slightly, chuckling. Jay leans back in his chair and thinks over what she is asking before coming to his decision.
Jason Halich:
“You know something? I don’t think you’re wrong. At least not about your last match here. You're definitely wrong about that..."
He points at the etch-a-sketch.
Jason Halich:
"Nobody can do that..."
He does not linger on it though, shaking his amazement away.
Jason Halich:
"Now, I know you lost against RC Tucker. I know you said some less than flattering things about this company, but I’ll chalk that up to a flared temper after losing a big match. Happens to the best of us.”
Spider nods and smiles, looking apologetic. Jay seems to take notice of this.
Jason Halich:
“I’ll tell you what… you’ve got Luke Jackson tonight. He was a contender for the TV Title. IF you can beat him tonight, and you can beat him clean, no dirty tricks? You’re in the Coastal Championship match.”
Spider skips happily and leans across the desk, wrapping her arms around his neck. Jay clears his throat and she immediately releases her grasp, standing up straight, a serious expression on her face. Jay shakes his head again.
Jason Halich:
“Don’t make me regret it, Spider.”
She nods, her determined look not wavering for an instant… but once she turns around, the camera catches a glimpse of a smile cracking as the show cuts back to ringside.
As the cameras cut back to ringside, "Good Girls" by Elle King hits the PA system and Heather Cooper is seen standing in the middle of the ring. The fans start off with cheers as the bell chimes three times to signal that the announcements for the first match of the night were about to get underway, but immediately shift into heavy boos as Eliza comes through the curtain and out onto the stage.
Heather Cooper:
"Introducing first, from Las Vegas, Nevada, Eliza Valentine!"
Eliza makes her way down to the ring, focused not on the response from the crowd, but the ring itself. She slides under the bottom rope, and walks right up to Heather Cooper, to start in on her, but again her music is cut off before she can even start.
Heather Cooper:
"...and her opponent..."
The lights go out as "Faith" by Limp Bizkit begins to come out of the PA System. Fans are on their feet cheering as Faith Rivers walks out a moment later and stands at the top of the entrance ramp.
Heather Cooper:
"Making her way to the ring from Miami, Florida... give it up for ... FAAAITH RIIIVERSSS!"
As the chorus of the song hits, 'You Gotta Have Faith' she jumps up a little and as her feet come down on the ramp again, lights flash on the aisle in front of her, just before Faith runs down the ramp and slides into the ring. As she gets to her feet, Faith runs into the corner and gets up on the second turnbuckle. She taunts the fans a bit before jumping down. Faith then begins to loosen up her arms before leaning back against the ropes as she awaits the opening bell.
The two competitors met in the center of the ring at the sound of the bell and Eliza looked to be talking a ton of trash. When they separated, new referee Sabrina Ramirez stayed out of their way. The two circled one another for a second until Eliza shot forward and sent a hard kick to the side of Faith's right leg.
Coby Quik:
"Eliza Valentine is not going to wait to try and get her offense going against Faith. She wants to put this one away early."
Parker Wayde:
"That's kind of her default setting..."
Faith attempted to push her back, but Eliza ducked under her arm, and sent another kick to the same spot. When Faith turned towards her, she dropped down, hitting her in the kneecap with a dropkick that took her down to her knees. Eliza rolled backwards, and back to her feet before Faith could rise back up from her knees. Eliza sent a kick aimed for her head, but she ducked under it. As soon as Eliza could plant her foot to the mat, she raised the other and caught Faith with a back kick to the face. She did not go down to the mat though, and Eliza rotated a second time, hitting her with a second kick that finally took her down to the mat. She threw herself across Faith for the pin, and Sabrina dropped to the mat to count the fall. However, Faith was able to kick out at two.
Coby Quik:
"Eliza Valentine is making it look easy out there."
Parker Wayde:
"Nobody said she wasn't good...."
Eliza maintained her cool after the near fall, and tried to help Faith up to her feet to continue her offense, but Faith hooked her up and rolled backwards into a small package pin attempt. By surprise alone, Faith was able to keep her balled up for a two count, but the "Queen of Pride" was able to break free after that. The two scrambled to their feet, but as they came together, Faith wrapped her arms around Eliza and took her over her head with a belly-to-belly suplex. She quickly threw herself over Eliza for the pin, but failed to hook the leg, and Eliza was able to kick out just after the second time Sabrina's hand slapped the mat.
Coby Quik:
"Faith is starting to build some momentum now."
Parker Wayde:
"Never count out Eliza. When all else fails, she will start breaking rules to get the upper hand. Faith better be ready."
Faith was first up to her feet, and she reached down to pull Eliza back up. As soon as she was vertical, Faith rotated around on her heel and sent a hard kick to Eliza's stomach that doubled her over. Seeing her opening, Faith hooked an arm around her neck, and dropped her back to the mat with a DDT.
Coby Quik:
"Eliza is having the fight brought to her!"
Feeling the momentum, Faith got back up to her feet, but this time waited. Sabrina checked on Eliza, who signaled that she was able to continue. Eliza moved to the ropes, and used them to help her get back to her feet, but Faith was waiting and sizing her up the whole time. Faith sprinted towards her as Eliza got her feet under herself, but Eliza pulled down the top rope, and ducked down as Faith closed in, which sent her to the outside apron. Faith wasted no time getting back up, but Eliza was there waiting with a right hand that caught Faith in the jaw. Faith was able to keep her grip on the top rope to prevent herself from being knocked off of the apron, but was clearly staggered. Eliza took the opportunity to run along the ropes before leaping up to springboard off of the adjacent side. When she rebounded in the air back towards Faith, she brought both of her boots up to the side of Faith's head. The sound of the impact sent a shiver down every spine in the arena, and sent Faith down to the floor outside the ring.
*CALIFORNIA LOVE!!!!!!!*
The lights around the arena flicker and go out as sky blue and neon green lights spiral around the stage. The cameras pick up Eliza's confused reaction from the middle of the ring as the fans explode. A single word appears on the screen for those that were not familiar with the music: Maddie.
Parker Wayde:
"This is a bad idea..."
The former wrestler and current interviewer comes out from behind the curtain and out onto the stage to the sound of cheers. Instead of being dressed as she normally would be, She was dressed to compete. She walked down the center of the aisle, ignoring the fans, as Eliza taunted her from the ring. Faith was starting to get up on the outside, and look confused as Maddie approached her. Without warning, Maddie took the last few steps at a run, and leaped into the air. She hooked her hands behind Faith's head and brought her face down into her knee with a Code Breaker.
Coby Quik:
"What was that for?"
Sabrina Ramirez turned towards the timekeeper and called for the bell to end the match as Maddie got back up to her feet. Heather Cooper, on the other side of the ring got up to make the announcement of the match.
Heather Cooper:
"Ladies and gentlemen as a result of a disqualification, here is your winner, Eliza Valentine!"
Eliza starts to hurl insults at Maddie from inside the ring, but Maddie is already backing up the ramp. She shrugs her shoulders and the cameras are able to pick up some of her words.
Maddie Wilson:
"Sorry not sorry... See you real soon."
With another shot of Eliza fuming in the ring and not allowing Sabrina to raise her hand in victory, the cameras cut away.
Cameras move backstage to the newest backstage interviewer, Kurtis Gordon standing there with a microphone in his hand.
Kurtis Gordon:
“Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time, she is the challenger for Holly Rhodes’ television championship, Kendall James!”
The camera pans out to show Kendall James standing there next to Kurtis, dressed and ready to go for her match.
Kendall James:
“Hi, Kurtis! How’s Kinley?”
Kurtis appears to be a little uncomfortable with the question, and mostly brushes it off.
Kurtis Gordon:
“Fine. Your match is coming up, Kendall….are you prepared for your opponent, Holly Rhodes?”
He moves the microphone over to her lips and she simply shrugs her shoulders before smiling at him and placing her hands on her slender hips.
Kendall James:
“Yes, J.D. and I trained a lot today.”
She winks at him and he just shakes his head at Kendall before trying to maintain some level of professionalism.
Kurtis Gordon:
“Right. There is a lot on the line in this match for both you and Holly. How do you plan on dealing with the pressure?”
Kurtis looks at her and she flashes him a mischievous smirk.
Kendall James:
“Do we really have to talk about my match with Holly? Or the fact that I have an opportunity to become the next Television Champion?”
Kurtis raises an eyebrow at the blonde.
Kurtis Gordon:
“That is kind of what we’re here for..”
Kendall shrugs her shoulders.
Kendall James:
“Or we could talk about you! You’re new to Pride! Maybe the people need to get to know you!”
Kurtis gives her a look.
Kendall James:
“Like, how you have the cutest girlfriend ever! And that she’s my best friend, so clearly she has good taste in people.”
Kurtis sighs and runs a hand over his face.
Kurtis Gordon:
“Let’s move this back to you--”
Kendall James:
“AND! Have you told the people that you are going to have THREE babies in like three months? Maybe four.”
Kendall held up three fingers then four to the camera before looking at Kurtis and smiling at him. He just sighs and nods his head, giving in.
Kurtis Gordon:
“Yes, me and my girlfriend are going to have triplets in March some time. And yes, Kinley is probably the cutest girl ever. Now, back to your match, Kendall. You’re not at all worried about the match?”
Kendall opens her mouth to speak but closes it when she sees her boyfriend, J.D. Wright walking toward them.
Kendall James:
“J!”
J.D. walks over to them and Kendall smirks at him before looking at Kurtis. She turns her attention back to J.D. just so she can lean up on the toes of her boots and kiss him full on the lips in front of Kurtis and the camera.
Kendall James:
“Sorry, Kurt, I’d love to continue this little….”
She motions between them with her hand.
Kendall James:
“Thing, but I’m going to go try to convince J.D. to referee my match.”
Kurtis rolls his eyes.
J.D. Wright:
“Never going to happen.”
Kendall frowns and crosses her arms over her chest, giving him a look.
J.D. Wright:
“And let’s not have this argument on TV.”
Kendall frowns before grabbing his arm and pulling him out of the camera’s view.
A scuttling is heard as the jumbo screen flares to life, showing bugs and a large spider scrambling across the screen. Spotlights dance across the crowd as "Million Miles an Hour" roars through the speakers. The lights lock onto Spider herself, standing at the top of the steps in the midst of the crowd.
Heather Cooper:
"Introducing first, from Dallas, Texas, SPIDER!!!!"
She slowly walks down the steps towards the ring, smiling at the fans as she goes. She hops the barricade and jumps to the apron, looking out at the crowd. Spider hops up, allowing herself to hang upside down from the top rope, knees wrapped around it, before stepping into the ring and awaiting her match.
Heather Cooper:
"...and her opponent..."
"Lose Yourself" plays over the PA System as Luke walks out.
Heather Cooper:
"From Oakland, California, he is a Pride Pro Wrestling Original, Luke Jackson!"
He has a backwards A's cap on he slaps the hands of the fans as he walks down the aisle. He gets to the ring and circles around to the far side from the ramp before climbing the stairs and entering opposite from
Coby Quik:
"We saw Jason Halich talking to Spider about this match a little earlier."
Parker Wayde:
"If she wins, she gets into the Coastal Championship picture."
Coby Quik:
"....but what about if Luke wins? He came up short in the Television Championship match. A win over Spider could get him back in that conversation."
Parker Wayde:
"That's a tall order though. Even the PRIDE Champion had a tough time with Spider."
The bell had barely rung the third time when Spider went on the offensive. As she rushed in, Luke tried to slow her attack with a boot to her chest, but Spider hit the mat, and slid under it. She pushed herself back to her feet as Luke turned and clocked him with a hard elbow strike across the cheekbone that staggered him backwards. Spider kept on him though, and dove low with a dropkick to his kneecap that took him down to the mat. JD Wright moved around the duo to be in position for the pin, but ended up being in Spider's way as she sprinted towards the ropes. The stutter step in avoiding him cost her time, and when she springboarded back off the ropes, Luke raised his knees to catch her in the stomach on her way down with a lionsault attempt.
Coby Quik:
"Luke got his knees up!"
Parker Wayde:
"I have a feeling JD is going to be hearing about that."
Coby Quik:
"Probably just some angry tweets, she doesn't talk much."
Parker Wayde:
"I see you're learning not to sugarcoat things..."
Spider held her midsection, but stayed bent forward on her knees. It took her a few seconds to regroup, but she was still able to barely beat Luke back up. Spider threw a hard right hand, but Luke blocked it away and countered with a hard kick to her stomach. When Spider doubled forward, Luke grabbed her wrist, and rotated under it to torque her elbow out of place. When she reacted to the pressure and moved her free arm away from her stomach, Luke sent a second hard kick to the same spot as the first before releasing her arm.
Coby Quik:
"Looks like Luke has picked his spot."
With Spider doubled over, Luke ran to the ropes behind her. When he came back to her he put a hand on the back of her head and drove her into the mat with a bulldog that got the fans to rally behind him. He beat Spider back up, and took her back down to the mat with a snap suplex that caused her to arch up off of the mat. With Spider down, Luke climbed up the turnbuckles, and played up to the fans. Camera flashes all around the arena went off when Luke leaped off, looking for a 450, but only finding canvas as Spider rolled away to avoid contact.
Parker Wayde:
"That does not feel nice."
It took both competitors to the count of five to make it back up to their feet, with JD Wright constantly going back and forth between them as they worked to stand up. They both wished to continue, and with the aid of the ropes on opposite sides of the ring, got back to their feet. As they came together, Luke looked for a clothesline to take Spider down, but he was too slow, and she ran under it to the ropes behind him. She springboarded again, and caught him on her way down with a tornado DDT.
Coby Quik:
"Looks like she is still able to fly."
Parker Wayde:
"Luke landed right on the crown of his head. He might not be getting up."
Spider fought her way back to her feet, and stalked behind Luke who slowly used the ropes to get back up. The fans rose to their feet, knowing that the end could be near as soon as Luke fell into her trap. When he turned, Spider corkscrewed through the air before her right foot made contact with his cheek. Luke dropped to the mat hard, and Spider dropped over him without bothering to hook his leg. JD got into position to count the fall, and Luke did not even make an attempt to kick out before the three.
Heather Cooper:
"Here is your winner, Spider!"
Spider got up from the mat and JD raised her hand in victory. She celebrated in the ring as her music hit the PA system. She motioned like there was a championship around her waist and pointed up to the Phenomenon sign hanging in the arena as the camera cut away.
The cameras head backstage and find Gio Davidson meditating before his match with DeMarcus Gresham. He keeps his eyes closed while in a kneeling meditative posture. At the same time, Kitty Galore and her sister Ella Munroe are passing by the backstage area when they spot Gio. They cautiously approach him.
Kitty Galore:
“Hey Gio.”
Gio opens his eyes and receives the sisters with a polite smile.
Gio Davidson:
“Hello ladies What can I do for you?”
Gio’s eyes focus on Ella as he stands up. Kitty takes note of her sister’s flushing cheeks and smiles coyly.
Kitty Galore:
“Actually, Gio, I was wondering if you could keep Ella company while I finish up a photo shoot for the Pride website. She doesn’t know too many people back here and I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable while I work. Plus, you two seem to have hit it off lately.”
Ella Munroe:
“Katherine! I don’t need a babysitter. I’m older than you, remember? Plus, Gio probably has better things to do! He has a pretty big match tonight.”
Kitty Galore:
“Fine, Arabella.”
Gio crosses his arms in front of him, impressed that Ella considered his feelings.
Gio Davidson:
“Hey, it’s no problem at all. It’s not like I’m ‘Mr. Popularity’ here in Pride. Part of the perils of being the new rookie on the roster.”
Ella gets a sympathetic frown as Kitty sees her exit opportunity.
Kitty Galore:
“Perfect! I’ll meet up with you both after I'm done.”
Kitty scoots off to her photo shoot, leaving Ella and Gio alone. Gio discreetly eyes Ella’s beauty.
Gio Davidson:
“Arabella, huh?”
Ella blushes and looks down at her feet.
Ella Munroe:
“Yes. My family calls me Ella.”
Gio takes one of her hands into his hand while nudging her head up with his other hand to look up at him.
Gio Davidson:
“It’s a beautiful name. But I think I’m going to call you Bella instead of Ella. Bella is Italian for beautiful, like you.”
Ella doesn’t know how to respond to Gio’s affection except to shyly smile.
Ella Munroe:
“You are so sweet to me, Gio."
Gio looks her in the eyes.
Gio Davidson:
“I can’t help it. I’ve been drawn to you since the first time I met you. Your honesty, your innocence, your drive to embrace life outside the compound. Plus, you have a deep spirit to go with the gorgeous exterior. Am I wrong to feel this way about you?”
There is a genuine expression of requited affection on Ella’s face.
Ella Munroe:
“No…”
Before Ella can say anymore, Gio leans in and kisses her on the lips. Ella is shocked and takes a step back. Gio instantly feels remorseful.
Gio Davidson:
“Ella, I’m sorry. I thought you felt…”
Before he can finish his sentence, Ella plants her own kiss on his lips. They share a beautiful kiss before they are interrupted by…
*CRASH!!!*
Gio and Ella break their kiss as they hear the sound of metal clanging on the concrete floor followed by a the scream of a female. They both rush over to the other side of the backstage area where they find a female stagehand on the floor, holding her shoulder, and sobbing.
Ella Munroe:
“Oh my god! Someone please help us! We have an injured woman here!”
Gio kneels next to the woman as Ella tries to get the attention of other staff to call the medics. Gio examines her shoulder.
Gio Davidson:
“Your shoulder is dislocated. I stay with you while the medics get here, okay?”
The sobbing woman nods at Gio.
Gio Davidson:
“Can I pray for your shoulder while we wait?”
The woman looks strangely at Gio but accepts the offer. Gio softly prays in Latin while gently placing his hand on her shoulder.
Gio Davidson:
“Aeterna Dei sum id humero iubes ut restitueretur ei sanitas tua sanctum nomen eius. Vocat salutis. Amen.”
As soon as Gio finishes the prayer, an audible pop is heard. The woman opens her eyes widely and stares at Gio.
Injured Woman:
“What did you do? The pain is gone.”
As Gio is about to answer, the medics show up with Ella behind them. Gio stands up from the woman, a bit apprehensive.
Ella Munroe:
“Here she is, gentlemen. She dislocated her shoulder.”
The medics start to examine the woman as she stares at Gio. They are perplexed as they find nothing wrong with the woman. Ella notices Gio’s reaction. He’s not comfortable with the woman’s reaction.
Paramedic:
“Ma’am, what happened?"
Formerly Injured Woman:
“I was putting some tools up on the scaffolding when it gave way and I fell on my shoulder. I heard it crack. Then this gentleman and young lady came to help me. He...he prayed over me and I heard another pop and the pain went away.”
Paramedic:
“What? What are you talking about? Most dislocation need medical intervention. What guy are you talking about?”
The woman looks around for Gio but he’s gone. She looks over at Ella and she’s also looking for Gio who is nowhere to be found.
Formerly Injured Woman:
“He was with her. Kitty’s sister. The new guy healed me. I’m serious. He healed me.”
Ella looks stunned as she looks for Gio.
Ella Munroe:
“Gio?”
The scene ends with a shot of Ella’s confused reaction.
"Black Honey" begins to blare over the PA system when Julian Savell appears at the top of the entrance way. The fans begin to shower him with boos.
Heather Cooper:
"Coming to the ring... Residing in Las Vegas, Nevada and weighing in at 225 pounds... He is "Your Own Personal Savior"... JULIAN SAVELL!!!"
Julian pops the collar of the fur coat that he's wearing as a sly smirk runs over his face. Julian is also carrying his patented umbrella and is wearing sunglasses to go along with his wrestling trunks. Julian walks down the ramp while repeatedly raising his hands in the air, telling the fans to get louder with their boos so they oblige. Julian then walks up the steps and dusts his feet off on the top step before stepping through the middle rope. He climbs up to one of the top turnbuckles and then raises his hands in the air horizontally with the umbrella still in his right hand. Julian then jumps down from the turnbuckle, takes off his fur coat and sunglasses and hands them to one of the staffers outside of the ring. Julian then awaits for the match to begin.
Heather Cooper:
"...and his opponent..."
"This is my War” hits the PA system, and the lights dim, but nobody steps out from behind the curtain at the top of the stage. Confused murmurs fill the arena, and even Heather Cooper seems to be at a loss for what to do. Instead of waiting, she goes ahead and makes the announcement.
Heather Cooper:
"Making her Pride Pro Wrestling debut, Echo!"
The fans applaud, and fans all around the barricades at ringside point towards the woman as she rolls out from under the the ring and gets up to her feet. She looks up at Julian, who seems slightly amused, without any emotion on her face. As she slides into the ring, Heather makes her exit.
Coby Quik:
"Echo is supposedly a powerhouse in a small package."
Parker Wayde:
"Julian is a tough son of a bitch. I don't see him dropping a match to some newcomer."
The bell sounded, and the two seemed reluctant to lock up with one another. Every time Echo advanced on him, Julian backed up and taunted her. Eventually Echo got tired of the game and lunged at him, connecting with a hard right hook to his cheek that got his attention. Julian raised a knee to her midsection, but Echo brought her hands down on it, and blocked it before he could land it. She followed it with a hard elbow to his jaw that backed him away from her.
Coby Quik:
"She's been using the right but apparently Echo has..."
In the middle of the announcer saying it, Echo leaped up off of the mat, and brought down a left handed strike to the side of Julian's head that took him down to the mat.
Parker Wayde:
"A really good left hand... I'm guessing."
Coby Quik:
"Yeah..."
Echo tried to go for the cover, but when she went to roll Julian to his back, he hooked her up and rolled her into a small package style pin. PJ Cooper got down to slap the mat twice before the element of surprise wore off and Echo was able to kick out. She beat Julian back to her feet as he tried to shake out the cobwebs. She sprinted towards him and rose a knee up, aimed for the side of his head. At the last moment Julian pulled back, and let her move past him. Once her back was to him, he reached out, locked his arms around her waist, and suplexed her back over his head. Echo did almost a full rotation in the air before landing stacked up on her neck near the ropes.
Coby Quik:
"Julian just threw her across the ring!"
Parker Wayde:
"Kind of easy to do with a hundred pound advantage..."
The move bought Julian some much needed time. He was able to get his wits about him before making his way over to Echo and lifting her up off of the mat. He backed her up to the ropes, and whipped her across the ring. Instead of letting go of his wrist Echo kept her hold on him and reversed the move to send Julian across the ring. When he rebounded, she hit him in the stomach with a knee strike and doubled him forward. She wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled him forwards, spiking him on the mat with a DDT before attempting a pin. PJ did his best to count the fall fairly, but after two Julian got his shoulder up and Echo to exception to the speed of the count, calling it slow.
Coby Quik:
"It looks like Echo is starting to get frustrated."
Parker Wayde:
"PJ has let her get away with a lot of the closed fisted strikes. She has nothing to be complaining about."
Julian started to stir while they argued, but Echo turned back towards him before he made it back up to his feet. In true Julian fashion, as soon as she did, he raked at her eyes, causing her to back away from him. PJ attempted to intervene, but Julian shoved him away, Echo pulled her hands away from her eyes just in him for Julian to shuffle forward and drop her to the mat with a superkick that drew boos from the crowd and chants of DeMarcus Gresham's name.
Coby Quik:
"The fans are basically begging for DeMarcus to come out."
Parker Wayde:
"Julian seems to be daring him."
The former Pride Champion reaches down for Echo's wrist, and lifts her up from the mat. He places his foot on her neck, and turns towards the ramp, using his free hand to motion to the back and invite his Phenomenon opponent out. When no music sounded, Julian dropped Echo down, driving her head into the mat with a curb stomp.
Coby Quik:
"The Unsaved."
Parker Wayde:
"That was more of a message than anything."
Julian dropped into the cover, and even though he was reluctant, PJ counted it and then called for the bell.
Heather Cooper:
"Here is your winner via pinfall, Julian Savell!"
Julian gets up to his feet and demands to PJ raise his hand. The official does so unenthusiastic ally as Julian celebrates to the displeasure of the fans.
Coby Quik:
"Julian Savell may have come out with the win, but Echo handed him his ass for most of that match."
Parker Wayde:
"I don't think that Julian will be seeing it that way. He has all the momentum in the world heading into his match with DeMarcus now."
Coby Quik:
'DeMarcus almost has to come away with a win later on tonight if he is going to keep the playing field level."
Pride cameras go backstage to find a pleasant sight, that of the self-proclaimed Lion of the Pride, resident pun-lover, Sammy Duke! He had on just a pair of loose basketball shorts and a plain t-shirt with his face on the center of it, his short blonde hair contrasted to the dark clothing he wore.
Sammy Duke:
"So...this is our new boss. I guess maybe I should say hi? Yes, introduce myself, see if I can be receptive to the boss’ needs."
With a quick breath, Sammy comes around the corner approaching the cubicle to the office of the new boss.
Sammy Duke:
"Uhm, miss Violet? On behalf of your, uhm, big day, I wanted to say welcome to Pride Pro! And if there’s anything you need from me, I’m happy to give you a hand."
Although his statement came off more like a question, like he was trying to feel out the boss. Violet Ripley looks up from her laptop. A pair of black rimmed plastic frames on the end of her nose. Sammy has to do a double take as it appears as though her eyes change from a muted green to a deep full brown. He shakes it off as the lighting. She gives him a slight smile.
Violet Ripley:
"Sammy Duke. Funny you should come cuz you were just the man I was wantin’ to see. Have a seat."
She gestures to the black folding chair against the wall. He takes the offer, unfolding the chair and taking a seat across from Violet, his eyes fixated on her.
Sammy Duke:
"You uhh, wanted to see me, specifically? What can I uhh, do for you?"
Violet Ripley:
"That’s right and it isn't what you can do for me, but more along the lines of what I can do for you."
She turns her laptop screen around to show his match last show, the screen frozen on Luke Jackson being pinned.
Violet Ripley:
"Let me ask you, Do you feel like you lost this match? I mean yes, it is a loss on your record but what I mean is, you were not the one that failed. Holly didn't actually pin you. This is why three way title matches are a little stacked."
Sammy studied the picture she had displayed for him. It was one of his best matches yet, and despite the outcome of it, he couldn’t help but smile at his work. That certain...Pride...in your work.
Sammy Duke:
"I’ve never been one to complain about a match outcome, really. There’s a winner, and there’s the rest. Holly did get that win, she earned that title. If i’m being honest...it broke my heart some. But I know there will be other opportunities, I’m still young, I’m learning, every match is a learning opportunity. And I know if I got another shot, I would take the knowledge I’ve gotten so far and apply it to the future."
It hadn’t really dawned on him what Violet was seeming to get at.
Sammy Duke:
"Holly, Luke, Anushka...even that dirtbag Erron Wilder. These are all of my co-workers, so if they achieve greatness in the company, I have to be a good employee and appreciate what they’ve done."
Violet shakes her head.
Violet Ripley:
"Never compare yourself to someone else. Everyone does things their own way. What I am trying to say is, do you think you deserve another shot at the Television title? Something that will showcase you. Just one-on-one with the champion? Because I think you do. I have always felt that the TV title belongs to the real stars. A title that is defended the most. The people who earn it have to fight twice as hard. I think you could be that guy, Sammy."
Sammy’s eyes lit up at the very idea of it. Sammy, who had had one of the toughest initial runs in the company between starting with the eventual winner of the King of Lion’s event, a fifteen year veteran accomplished around the globe, and especially now this week, a non-title match with THE guy himself, RC Tucker. Was he being offered a heads up shot at the title he came so close to claiming at the last Ignition, despite his single win on his record?!
Sammy Duke:
"You...you think I have what it takes? To sell tickets, to...be the champion for the people, to hold the working man’s title?!"
The inner-fan in him was growing more and more excited as he tried to speak!
Sammy Duke:
"Because if that’s what you’re saying, I’d LOVE to have one more chance at that title! Growing up I’ve watched this all my life, I’m a literal lifelong fan! And now you’re offering me the chance to be one a champion like those I idolized growing up?!?!"
Violet nods.
Violet Ripley:
"Yes. I think you proved that you deserve a shot. You have not actually lost to Holly, therefore I consider you still a contender. I have already made it official... by texting Jason and saying so."
She smirks.
Violet Ripley:
"But... tonight is a match to really show what you are made of. It doesn't matter if it is a title match or not, you are up against the supposed 'best' Pride has to offer. Show me my trust is not misplaced and better yet... don’t do anything stupid and get brought out on a stretcher, I don't feel like finding another contender."
Sammy Duke:
"Tonight is the biggest opportunity of my life, that’s something I know just from being a fan! When you’re placed against THE guy, as they say in Vegas you’re “playing with house money”. If I lost, well it’s against the champion, most people expected the champion to win. That’s why they’re the champ! But if I won? If I, Sammy ‘The Lion’ Duke, could BEAT the champion? If I went out there, and all of the ShoWare Center stood with Sammy? Eyes would be opened, people would talk. I wouldn’t ever dream of trying to cut the line that’s currently forming...but if I beat the champ, some would speculate I could be the new number one contender!!"
Violet Ripley:
"It would definitely put you in the conversation. Obviously that is a spot that is going to be filled by either Erron or Anushka later on, but a win could put your name forward for sure. I wouldn't want you to just sit around and wait for that opportunity though..."
You could almost hear the loud thud in his chest from his heart racing and pumping as he spoke from excitement!
Sammy Duke:
*ahem*
"I think I got ahead of myself there, sorry boss lady! Short answer, yes, I’d love to have this opportunity to keep showing why you should place your faith in me, as the newest Pride exclusive talent!"
Violet Ripley:
"Well I wouldn't say that... however. Let’s start with the TV title before we start making lofty expectations shall we? "
She stands, showing off the lavender colored pantsuit she was wearing. She offers a hand to the Rookie. Sammy stood up to match her, gosh he had to be the only one cheesy enough to wear a t-shirt with his face plastered on the center of it. He watched as she extended her hand, taking it into his, the two sharing in a firm handshake. Almost business-like. His eyes locked onto hers.
Sammy Duke:
"I won’t let your faith be misplaced."
Just a single, solitary, yet powerful sentence was spoken. The cameras fade back to ringside.
Heather Cooper:
"The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Pride Television Championship!"
”Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato begins to play and a few seconds later, Kendall walks out onto the stage, a smirk on her face and her hands on her hips. She stops in the middle of the stage.
Heather Cooper:
"From Battle Lake, Minnesota, Kendall James!!!"
She looks around before moving her hips in a circle and turning around, bending over slightly before turning back to face the ring. She begins to walk down the ramp, arms down by her sides now. She stops in the middle of the ramp and looks around, acting like she’s gonna slap some of the fans’ hands before pulling away and pushing her hair over her shoulder and strutting down the rest of the ramp and over to the metal steps. She jogs up them and goes to the left, stepping on the apron and dipping down to get in the ring between the middle and bottom rope. She steps into the middle of the ring and just raises her hands up and downs a small bow.
Heather Cooper:
"...and her opponent..."
"Holy Diver" hits over the loudspeakers and as soon as the music increases in tempo, Holly parts the curtain.
Heather Cooper:
"She is the reigning Pride Television Champion, Holly Rhodes!"
She slowly walks to the ring, her eyes fixed on the ring. The Television Championship is draped over her shoulder, and she hugs the strap to her chest. She looks around as she marches to the ring, taking in the crowd noises. She pauses at the steps, takes a deep breath and slaps the steps before running up them and into the ring. PJ Cooper steps over to her, and she reluctantly hands over the championship for him to hold up. It gets its own ovation from the crowd before it is passed off to the timekeeper before the start of the match.
Coby Quik:
"TV Championship up for grabs!"
Parker Wayde:
"You have to think Kendall has something to prove here, and she definitely wants that championship."
Coby Quik:
"She has been kicking ass lately, not to mention piling up some bodies behind her."
Parker Wayde:
"You have to question her focus though, especially against someone as dangerous as Holly Rhodes."
Holly sprinted in to start the match, but in an impressive display, Kendall bent backwards and let Holly's attempt at a clothesline pass over her head. Holly continued past her to the ropes, but when she came back, Kendall used her momentum against her and took her over with an arm drag. Instead of releasing her grip on Holly's arm, she immediately twisted it at an awkward angle, and brought down her free elbow on Holly's hyper-extended arm. Holly shouting out only caused the crowd to rally behind her, and after absorbing a few more shots to her arm from Kendall, Holly fought back to her feet. Once she had her base, she used her strength to pull her arm away from Kendall, and in doing so, sent her running across the ring. This time, when Kendall met her in the center, Holly pushed her straight up into the air, and let her fall down to the mat hard.
Coby Quik:
"Pancaking the mat like that can knock the air out of you."
Parker Wayde:
"I'm sure it didn't feel pleasant either way. Kendall got some serious air."
As Kendall started to get up, Holly wrapped her arms around her neck, locking in a sleeper hold in the center of the ring. She used her height and weight advantage to push Kendall back down, and slowly the rookie started to fade. The crowd started to cheer when PJ checked on her to make sure she did not want to quit, but she was unresponsive. He lifted her arm up, and went to drop it, but Kendall was able to keep it up, which drew some boos from the crowd. Finding a little life, Kendall fought her way back up to her knees, and then to her feet. She was only on them for a second though before she reached up, and locked her arms around Holly's head and fell down in a modified jawbreaker that broke the hold.
Coby Quik:
"Kendall managed to fight out of it."
Parker Wayde:
"That had to take a lot out of her though."
Holly won the race to their feet and came at Kendall. She took the rookie down with a clothesline, but Kendall started to hit her second wind, and was back up on her feet quickly. When she popped back up, Holly went for the move a second time, but Kendall cut her off with a boot to her chest. However, instead of it landing, Holly caught it. In a flash, Kendall leaped with her planted foot, and turned to catch Holly with an enziguri that took her down to the mat. She made her way over to her and draped an arm across her for an attempt at the pin, but Holly pushed her away even before the count of two.
Coby Quik:
"Kendall does not appear to have a lot left."
Parker Wayde:
"She had to be close to being out earlier. Maybe she is just on autopilot at this point."
The two women were back up near the same time, and exchanged strikes in the center of the ring, with Holly getting the upperhand easily. Kendall started to get forced backwards, but turned the tables with a hard kick to Holly's stomach. Kendall followed it with an elbow to the side of Holly's head, and tried to take off running towards the other side of the ring. However, Holly had it scouted and reached out. Holly caught Kendall around the neck and pulled her down, smacking the back of her head and neck off the mat when they dropped.
Coby Quik:
"That's one way to cut off Kendall's momentum."
Parker Wayde:
"It looked like it hurt too. That was a rough landing."
Holly tried to shake away the effects of Kendall's offense and got back to her feet. She reached down for Kendall, pulling her back up and then powering her up onto her shoulders. The fans rose to their feet as Holly's hips popped, and Kendall rotated through the air as they fell back towards the mat. The impact was hard enough to send an echo through the arena. Kendall bounced off the mat and landed on her side when she came back down, which made it easy for Holly to roll her over and drape herself over her. PJ Cooper slid in and counted the fall as the fans cheered. When PJ called for the bell, it could not even be heard over the fans.
Heather Cooper:
"Here is your winner and STILL Pride Television Champion, Holly Rhodes!"
As Holly gets back up to her feet, she is handed the Television Championship. She raises it with one arm as PJ Cooper raises her other one in victory. Everyone in the crowd is on their feet cheering as the cameras cut elsewhere in the arena.
