Kendall sighs as she sits on the floor in the living room of the house she shares with her brother and his new girlfriend, Becca. She was waiting for JD to show up but her patience was wearing thin.
Caleb: “What's wrong little sister?”
He walks in and sits down on the couch, looking at his little sister, who was staring at the door as if she was willing it to open.
Kendall: “I'm waiting.”
Caleb raises an eyebrow at her a little.
Caleb: “On?”
Kendall gives him an exasperated look before sighing as if he should know what she's waiting on.
Kendall: “The boyfriend.”
He just shakes his head at her before grabbing the remote to the television. He didn't really know what to say to her.
Caleb: “Staring at the door isn't going to make him appear any faster, Ken.”
Kendall shoots Caleb a look and then turns back to the door.
Kendall: “It might. You don't know.”
Almost as if on cue to prove her point, there is a light knock on the door. In all their time together, JD was still much too awkward to be forward enough to simply walk into her home, especially when there were other people around. Kendall’s eyes dart to it, but Caleb is the first one up from his seat. He crosses to the door, pulling it open.
Caleb: “Good luck…”
He does not even have to look to know it is JD, probably thinking that he was on time for being here. Kendall was not known for being patient. JD steps through the door without responding, catching her eye as soon as he is across the room from her.
JD: “You know you could always meet me at the airport and not have to wait so long to see me.”
She frowns at him, giving him one of her looks before pouting her bottom lip out at him. She was not patient in that aspect either.
Kendall: “Or better yet...here's a thought….”
She taps her index finger to her lips a few times before smiling at him and then placing her hands on her slender hips.
Kendall: “You could just stay here and not go to Seattle anymore!”
She grins at him as if she had just solved the world's biggest problem. She looks at him before looking back as Caleb disappears into the kitchen. He crosses the room and sits down next to her, kissing the side of her head as he gets comfortable.
JD: “Or, even better, you could come with me. That way I can still make some kind of money and get to be with you at the same time.”
He shrugs, knowing that she would probably not go for it. He did have other news though. News that she had probably not caught from social media yet.
JD: “Although… Seattle is the only place I will be traveling for the foreseeable future. Going around the world with EWC is over. I took a new job.”
She gives him a skeptical look, unsure of what to think of this new job. She didn't really like him going to Seattle either. She wasn't good at sharing; it was called she's the baby and got whatever she wanted from her father.
Kendall: “Or...you could not take a new job and just stay here!”
She grins at him as if it was such a brilliant idea. She knew it was an irrational thought because most everybody had to work and didn't she know it as she had three jobs.
Kendall: “You can't say that Seattle is more fun than me…”
She gives him a small smirk. He shakes his head.
JD: “The two things are not even comparable. If I could be here with you all day, everyday, I would be. Unfortunately, loving you does not pay the bills. So I have to work. This job offer was better than any of the others though.”
He can tell that the idea was going to be a tough sell either way. The fact that it was not in Minnesota was going to be a point of contention.
JD: “...but it does mean that I am still only gone Monday and Tuesday. I even get to come back at the same time I do now, with less bumps and bruises.”
She gives him another skeptical look, still not sure about what he was saying. It wasn't like she could change his mind anyways.
Kendall: “Well...I don't think I can change your mind without taking my clothes off. And that is obviously not an option right now…”
She purses her lips together and slightly pouts as she looks at her boyfriend.
Kendall: “But why Seattle? Nobody ever does anything in Minnesota. It's not fair.”
She makes a hmph noise before crossing her arms over her chest in a childish manner. He sighs, letting the breath out slow. He had gotten used to dealing with her not wanting to leave. If he was honest, he was the same way.
JD: “There is a new company starting up. Kind of an offshoot of the Jet City Sports Lab. Same owners and everything. They asked me and PJ to take a step back from competition and be referees that they know aren’t going to get knocked around. Something about saving them money on medical bills.”
He nudges her a little, trying to get her to cheer up.
JD: “... and it comes with free travel back and forth for the both of us. Since I told Jason that I didn’t want to be constantly leaving a certain someone behind. Assuming I can convince you to tag along.”
She presses her lips together, thinking for a moment.
Kendall: “I don't know….”
She looks at him. She wasn't sure about leaving Minnesota again. When she had gone to Miami it had been miserable for her to be there.
Kendall: “Seattle? But why there?”
She sighs a little.
JD: “Because I will be there.”
He nudges her again, getting her to look up at his eyes.
JD: “...and with how well you have been keeping up with me, maybe they are interested in you too.”
She looks at him, her eyes looking into his and she shrugs her shoulders.
Kendall: “Please. Like they'd be impressed by me. I can barely do a simple dropkick!”
She scoffs a little before wiggling and then looking at him. She bites her bottom lip, resisting to smile for a minute.
Kendall: “Did you….say you loved me?”
She looks at him. He chuckles nervously and looks down at his lap, shaking his head.
JD: “I almost got away with it too because you were pouting so much.”
She skews her eyebrows together and purses her lips put and together. She then smiles before flinging herself at him and hugging him before pressing her lips against his, kissing him full on the mouth.
Kendall: “I … love you too.”
She couldn't believe that she had said it out loud but it wasn't as scary as it had seemed in her head.
Kendall: “Let's go to Granny’s Pantry….!”
