The sound of a piano drifted through the Vegas home, empty rooms with their doors flung open and even the patio doors were left open so the sound almost surrounded the whole house itself. Perfectly played tones tickled across the keys as Eliza, eyes closed, sat at the piano pouring herself into the piece. Her body swayed a little with the music as she played it, completely immersed in her own little world as she played. She never saw Maddux walk up to the piano and rest his hands against the side of it, watching her be immersed in the beautiful melody she’s creating. He waits until she is done and lightly claps his hands.
“That was absolutely beautiful, Eliza…”
The sound of his gentle clapping brings her back into the room and she immediately flushed pink in her cheeks, shaking her head some she pulled her fingers back from the keys and laughed a little, obviously shy about her playing.
“It was just a silly old tune, nothing special, really…”
He shakes his head and lightly chuckles as he places his hands over hers.
“Nothing special? Did you really just say that?”
He gives her hands a playful squeeze.
“Is it wrong that I love how amazing you are to think that, that wasn’t special? You never cease to amaze me.”
She leans back into him just a little, her eyes half closing as she takes a breath, enjoying her moment with him.
“Music is about pouring your soul into every last note; sometimes I think mine is so fractured I have nothing left to give to the music…”
She opens her eyes as she tilts her head back to look at him.
“And then here you are to remind me a soul can be mended, if it is cared for by someone with the right tools for the job.”
He softly runs his hand down her cheek before taking her chin in his hand and locks his eyes with hers. He leans in close, his nose just a few inches from hers.
“I have never seen you as broken, Eliza. When I look at you it makes my heart overflow with love and turn my stomach full of butterflies. I’ve never felt the way I do about you or around you with anyone else ever in my life. I almost feel like I should be thanking you for every day with you.”
She rests her forehead to his with a soft smile, her eyes flutter close as she shakes her head slightly.
“You always see the best in me, it’s like when you’re around I’m someone else entirely, I’m the person I always wanted to be; I’m not pretending, or acting out of fear or hurt.. I just, am. I’ve never been that way before, so you owe me no gratitude because every morning I wake up beside you is a gift.”
He leans in and softly kisses her lips, lingering there for a moment.
“I guess we can both count ourselves as lucky then? It’s not everyday you find your soulmate in your work office.”
He chuckles a bit before kissing her again. She smiles against his lips before letting out a sigh and sitting up.
“I almost wish we had met somewhere else, I’m getting a little tired of having to defend our relationship… all the unhealthy ones I have had and people attack the one good choice I’ve made when it comes to dating, it’s ridiculous!”
He shakes his head and slowly smiles to her.
“Fuck em. We know what our relationship is build and based off of and that’s all that matters. And if they cling to that, what does that have to do with you in Pride and me in Vengeance? Absolutely nothing. So let the stupid idiots be stupid, let them run their mouths and prove how they have nothing on you that makes any difference. I love you, you love me… Nothing else matters.”
She laughs softly and laces her fingers with his.
“Nothing else matters huh? You seem pretty set on that one, but I wanna get it back… who I was. You make me feel like I could rule the world Mad and I want to, with you in my corner I know I can be better than I ever was before…”
She sighs softly and looks down at their hands intertwined.
“But I’m scared, I’m scared I’ll fuck this up like I have every good thing in my life and losing you.. the idea.. the risk… it keeps me up at night.”
He shakes his head and leans more into her, resting his head against hers.
“You never need to worry about losing me, I ain’t going anywhere. I am here for you, forever.”
He lifts her head up with a gentle hand on her chin.
“For you to worry is crazy and while I know you’re my favorite kind of crazy… This is one you don’t have to be.”
She meets his eyes with a gaze that is tinged with sadness.
“I know I shouldn’t worry about it, I do… but I can’t help myself You mean so much more to me than I can ever express to you Mad..”
He presses his forehead against hers and lets out a sigh,
“We both came from broken places. Abusive relationships, relationships we’ve used to just escape for a while and ones of just convenience. But with us? None of those are they case. Sure, we started out as a very hot, nasty and sexy fling but it became so much more than either of us could have known. Your broken parts fit my broken parts… That’s how I know we are meant to be.”
She sighs gently against his lips with a small smile, nodding her head against his.
“How do you always manage to say something that makes me feel instantly better. It’s like you whisper to my soul, I am so lucky to have you. Thank you for always seeing the best in me Maddux…”
He nudges his head softly against hers.
“I told you… My broken parts fit your broken parts. Together? We are whole.”
